 Q&A

Is DPC Health Insurance?

No. We are physicians who contract directly with our patients to provide primary care services. Our plan is membership-based with a low monthly fee, much like a gym membership.

As a patient of Gulf Coast DPC, will I still need health insurance?

Yes. we recommend that all patients have, at a minimum, a high deductible health plan (HDHP) for catastrophic coverage such as hospitalization or surgery.  We recommend considering a health sharing ministry like MediShare, Liberty, or Samaritan.

I am already paying a monthly fee for health insurance. Why do I need Gulf Coast DPC?

In most cases, patients save money by choosing a higher deductible health plan and paying directly for medical care through GCDPC.  Other benefits include a same day/ next day appointments, no wait time, and access to Dr. Bernard via phone, text, and email.

If I have Medicare, can I still join Gulf Coast DPC?

YES! As of October 1, 2016 Dr. Bernard will be "opted-out" of Medicare, and will therefore be able to privately contract with Medicare-eligible patients. Call our office for more details.

Patients with Medicare may still use Medicare to cover labs, medicines, and specialists.  Only Dr. Bernard's services are not covered by Medicare.

What happens if I need to go to the hospital or see a specialist?

In providing superb care with unprecedented access, we seek to prevent or reduce hospitalizations and specialty referrals. In instances where those types of care are required, we will coordinate with your hospitalist or specialist.

Can children become members of Gulf Coast DPC?
Yes. We are happy to accept the children of our enrolled clients. At this time, we are not able to provide routine vaccinations for young children but we will work with you to arrange these.

Can I contact my physician after hours? And how?

All patients will have Dr. Bernard's cell phone number for texting and email address, and can message her at any time.  She will respond as soon as possible.  For emergencies, please call 911.

Are my medical records ever shared with insurance carriers or pharmaceutical companies?
Never.  This is one of the biggest advantages of the DPC model. We are never obligated to provide any third party with a copy of your records, unless you specifically ask that we do so.

I own a business.  Can I provide access to Gulf Coast DPC to my employees?

Yes! Ask about our special corporate pricing.  No business is too small or too large to benefit from Gulf Coast DPC.
