 Q&A
Is DPC health insurance?

No. We are physicians who contract directly with our patients to provide primary care services. We charge a low monthly membership fee that includes all medical services, much like a gym membership.

As a patient of Gulf Coast DPC, will I still need health insurance?

We strongly recommend that patients purchase an insurance plan, such as a high deductible health plan (HDHP) or health sharing ministry program, for catastrophic coverage such as hospitalization or surgery.

I am already paying a monthly fee for health insurance. Why do I need Gulf Coast DPC?

In many cases, patients save money by choosing a higher deductible health plan and paying directly for medical care through Gulf Coast DPC.  Other benefits include enhanced appointments, minimal wait time, and access to the practice and your physician via phone, text, and email.

If I have Medicare, can I still join Gulf Coast DPC?

YES!  Dr. Bernard and Dr. Fontana are both "opted-out" of Medicare, and will therefore can privately contract with Medicare-eligible patients. We can continue to refer our patients for Medicare covered services such as physical therapy and prescribe durable medical equipment when appropriate.

Patients with Medicare may still use Medicare to cover labs, medicines, and specialists.  Only your membership fee is not covered by Medicare.

What happens if I need to go to the hospital or see a specialist?

In providing high quality care with enhanced access, we seek to prevent or reduce hospitalizations and specialty referrals. In instances where those types of care are required, we will coordinate with your hospitalist or specialist.

Can children become members of Gulf Coast DPC?
Yes. We are happy to accept the children aged 3+. At this time, we are not able to provide routine vaccinations for young children but we will work with you to arrange these.

Can I contact my physician after hours? And how?

All patients will have contact information for reaching the practice after hours, and physicians will respond as soon as possible.  For emergencies, please call 911.

Are my medical records ever shared with insurance carriers or pharmaceutical companies?
Never.  This is one of the biggest advantages of the DPC model. We are never obligated to provide any third party with a copy of your records, unless you specifically ask that we do so.

I own a business.  Can I provide access to Gulf Coast DPC to my employees?

Yes! Ask about our special corporate pricing.  No business is too small or too large to benefit from Gulf Coast DPC.

How do I sign up?

There are a number of ways to sign up. Please call us at (239) 322-3860 or send us an e-mail so that we can call you when YOU have time. You can also find us on social media - find us on Facebook @GulfCoastDPC.
